Searching for his older brother, a 5-year-old Indian boy named Saroo boards a train that takes him thousands of miles away from his home in Calcutta. Unable to speak the local language and forced to survive as a street kid, Saroo is eventually placed in an orphanage and adopted by a loving Tasmanian couple (Nicole Kidman and David Wenham). He grows up continents away from his birthplace. Twenty-five years later, with only faint memories of his early years, Saroo (Dev Patel), uses a new satellite imagery program called Google Earth to search for the place he first called home. Directed by Garth Davis and based on the true story of Indian-Australian businessman Saroo Brierly, Lion roars with its an all-star cast of Dev Patel, Nicole Kidman, Rooney Mara and Bollywood actress Priyanka Rose in this heart-wrenching journey of identity, family, ingenuity, and determination – made possible by modern technology. (Running TIme: 120 minutes) Followed by Conversation with VERY SPECIAL GUESTS on Opening Night, Thursday, Oct. 21. Moderated by Washington Post chief film critic Ann Hornaday. This screening is presented by The Washington Post.
